Barbara Stelingowska, DSc

prof. Barbara Stelingowska, DSc

Director of the Centre for Polish Language and Polish Culture

Literary scholar, glottodidactician, and teacher of Polish as a foreign language. A graduate of Polish Philology (2001),  PhD in Humanities (2013), and a postdoctoral degree in literary studies (2024). She completed a training course for candidates for Polish language instructors at foreign academic centers (Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Polish Diaspora and Foreigners, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin) and Postgraduate Qualification Studies in Teaching Polish Culture and Language as a Foreign Language (University of Silesia in Katowice). Since 2002, she has been associated with the University of Siedlce – for 16 years she co-organized the "Polonicum" Polish Language Summer School and taught classes for foreigners. She has collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Centre for Culture, implementing projects promoting the Polish language at home and abroad. She has led language courses, among others. for participants from Ukraine, Latvia, and Belarus. She is active in the local community and in the "Wspólnota Polska" Association, where she has been involved in initiatives supporting Poles abroad since 2004. prof. Andrzej Borkowski, DSc

Philologist, linguist, literary scholar, glottodidactician, and speech therapist. He graduated in Polish Philology with a specialization in teaching (Podlasie University in Siedlce, 2001) and completed postgraduate studies in communication with the deaf (Catholic University of Lublin, 2001). He also completed postgraduate studies in teaching Polish as a foreign language (UMCS in Lublin, 2018) and speech therapy (Siedlce University, 2022). In his research, he combines literary and linguistic reflections. His interests include issues in animal studies, disability studies, the linguistic worldview, bilingualism, and the issues of speech disorders and hearing impairment. Author of two books on teaching Polish as a foreign language: Polish Poetry for Foreigners with Exercises (Siedlce 2015) and From Aphorism to Article: Literary, Journalistic, and Academic Texts in Teaching Polish as a Foreign Language (Siedlce 2024). President of the Franciszek Karpiński Institute of Regional Culture and Literary Research, member of the German Comenius Society, and head of the Siedlce branch of the Language Culture Society. Ewa Borkowska, PhD

Polish and Russian language teacher. A graduate of Polish Philology (specializing in teaching and editing, Podlasie Academy in Siedlce, 2004), Russian Philology (2016), and Postgraduate Studies in Teaching Polish as a Foreign and Second Language (University of Siedlce, 2024). She lectured in Polish literature for 11 years and currently teaches Russian at the Foreign Language Center of the University of Siedlce. She is the editor of the "Siedlecka Biblioteka Literatury" publishing series, a member of the editorial board of the academic journal "Inskrypcje," and an editor of numerous publications of the IKRiBL Scientific Publishing House. Jacek Kowzan, PhD

Polish philologist, glottodidactician, and lecturer of Polish as a foreign language. A graduate of Polish Philology at the University of Wrocław and Postgraduate Studies in Glottodidactics at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, he has been associated with the Centre for Polish Language and Culture at the University of Siedlce for many years. He teaches foreign languages ​​at all levels, as well as courses and workshops preparing for the B1 certification exam. He has participated as an executive in numerous projects of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the supervision of prof. Beata Walęciuk-Dejneka. He has lectured in Polish language and literature at universities in Glasgow, Montenegro, and Warsaw, among others. Ewa Kozak, PhD

Literary scholar, Russian studies scholar, and glottodidactician. A graduate of Russian Philology (UMCS in Lublin, 2000), she holds a PhD in Slavic Literature (UMCS in Lublin, 2012), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Polish as a Foreign and Second Language (University of Siedlce, 2024). She has been associated with the University of Siedlce (formerly the Podlasie Academy) since 2003. She currently works as an assistant professor at the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies, serving as its deputy director since 2018. She combines her teaching experience with glottodidactic activities. Since 2020, she has been teaching Polish as a foreign language at the Center for Polish Language and Culture at the University of Siedlce. She serves as a Polish language examiner for foreign candidates applying for university admission and as a member of the state examination board for the certification of Polish as a foreign language. Adriana Pogoda-Kołodziejak, PhD

A glottodidactician, Germanist, music teacher, and theologian. She has been working with the Center for Polish Language and Culture at the University of Siedlce since 2017, teaching phonetics and musical culture. As an experienced voice coach, she draws on over 30 years of experience teaching vocal and breathing techniques, proper voice production, media communication, and public speaking. She improves the speech apparatus of foreigners, helping them master correct Polish pronunciation. During classes, she ensures a friendly atmosphere conducive to active participation – introducing a variety of voice, diction, and drama games that develop creativity and communication skills. She has taught classes as part of projects run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Summer Schools of Polish Language and Culture, Preparatory Courses for Studies in Poland, and one-year Polish language courses for foreigners. Danuta Skowrońska, PhD

Glottodidactician. Graduate of Polish Philology (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, 2007) and a PhD in Linguistics (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, 2011). She also completed Postgraduate Qualifying Studies in Teaching Polish Culture and Polish as a Foreign Language (University of Silesia in Katowice, 2023). Barbara Bandzarewicz, MSc

Research and Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies, University of Siedlce. She is currently preparing her doctoral dissertation on the prose works of Michał Choromański. She graduated from the Postgraduate Studies in Polish as a Foreign and Second Language (University of Siedlce, 2024). Since 2018, she has been teaching foreigners, developing their linguistic competences and introducing them to issues of culture and social life in Poland. She has experience in assessing the language proficiency of foreign candidates applying for admission to studies in Poland – she develops test questions and participates in the work of examination boards verifying their level of Polish language proficiency in accordance with academic requirements. Maria Długołęcka-Pietrzak, MSc

Research and Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies, University of Siedlce. Graduate of Polish Philology at the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in Siedlce (2013), postgraduate studies in Literature and Books for Children and Young People in the Light of the Challenges of Modernity at the University of Warsaw (2014/2015), and Postgraduate Studies in Polish as a Foreign and Second Language at the University of Siedlce (2023/2024). She is working on her doctoral dissertation on the work of Tadeusz Miciński. Lead editor of a publishing series devoted to animals in literature (Studies Animals | Plants, currently in its 7 volumes) and several scientific monographs. Member of the editorial board and technical editor of the journal "Inskrypcje. Półrocznyk." Organizer of numerous national and international scientific conferences. Her particular area of ​​interest is children's and young adult literature. She is a member of the Polish section of IBBY. Since 2017, she has run the social media profile @meaculpabibliophilia to promote reading, where she has published over 1,000 literary reviews. As a Polish language teacher, she collaborates with the Center for Polish Language and Culture at the University of Warsaw, conducting classes for foreigners.
